But there's nothing debatable about Montblanc's Signatures for Freedom collection, first launched in 2007. Each pen is an example of truly beautiful workmanship, and the series as a whole is inspired by the lives and visions of previous commanders-in-chief whose services laid the groundwork for our nation's freedom, independence and values. Limited to 50 pieces honoring the number of states in the union, the collection includes tributes to George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. For the serious patriot and serious Montblanc writing instrument fan, Airline International has a three-piece set with matching numbers (50/50), exclusive to that store and priced at $145,000. Shown here are Thomas Jefferson and John Adams.

David Oscarson Exclusive from Airline International
Airline International of El Paso, Texas, is offering an exclusive David Oscarson limited edition in fountain pen or rollerball. Les Quatre Couleurs (The Four Colors or the Four Suits) Canary Yellow Limited Edition of just eight pieces for the world (there are only two remaining) incorporates multiple levels of guilloche engraving and a combination of translucent and opaque hard enamel. The entire body of each pen is first cut to the level of the background, leaving the outer and inner lines of the four suits and decorative filigree motif in high relief. Translucent and opaque enamels are repeatedly kiln-fired and filed by hand, resulting in the beautiful finish of the true hard enamel. While the origins of playing cards can be traced to China, India and Persia as early as the seventh century, it wasn't until the fourteenth century that they were introduced to Europe. The four suits now used in most of the world – Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, and Clubs – originated in France about 1480. The spade represents nobility and aristocracy; the heart represents the church and clergy; the diamond represents merchants and the wealthy, and the club represents peasantry with its reference to the clover, the food of swine. This exclusive fountain pen is priced at $5,400; the rollerball, $5,200.

Hey, Delta pen company fans. Airline International--that great pen shop in El Paso, Texas--has an exclusive on a fabulous and forthcoming new Delta Roma Imperiale Demonstrator fountain pen. It is a limited edition of just 25 pieces and, to my knowledge, it is the largest demonstrator pen every produced. The body and cap are crafted from clear hand-polished resin and the details are in vermeil. It features a large 14-karat gold nib (size 8) with an ebonite feed; the pen is piston filled. It's a handful at almost 6.5 inches (closed) with a barrel circumference of 2.28 inches. The pen will be available in about two weeks, I understand, and it's priced at $1,395. The artist's rendering shown offers a pretty good idea of the pen's appearance, but I'll post a photo as soon as one is available. I'm a huge fan of demonstrator pens, and this looks like a fun one to own, produced by a respected Italian firm.
